In the last week of August we'll be celebrating black holes in Copenhagen! There are many reasons to be excited. The LIGO–Virgo–Kagra collaboration has seen hundreds of black hole collisions and hundreds more will be seen over the next decade. Europe is preparing the launch of LISA, the greatest detector ever built, and is currently discussing an Einstein telescope. Both GRAVITY and the Event Horizon Telescope are, as we speak, studying in ever increasing detail the black hole at the very center of our galaxy. This has changed everything since now the conundrums associated with quantum physics and gravity can be discussed in the light of observations.

In the meanwhile, our Center of Gravity has been interpreting all these observations and making predictions for how black holes should behave according to the theory of Einstein. In these fascinating times, gravity exerts an even stronger pull!

We want Copenhagen to fully participate in this celebration and to share the wonders of black hole physics. For this reason the Center of Gravity, together with the Niels Bohr Institute and other partners, is organizing the Black Hole Week with different exciting events around the city. To see the full list of the events, check out the program. All are welcome.

See you around a black hole!
