Vitor in Vitória

Vitor just delivered a plenary on Fundamental Physics in the Gravitational-Wave Era, at the VI Encontro de Primavera da SBF, the Spring Meeting of the Brazilian Physics Society. The meeting gathers practitioners across fields, from particles physics to cosmology and gravitational physics, and was packed to the brim with young talent discussing next generation instruments and the science to be done in decades ahead.

The meeting was organized by Julio Fabris, Raissa Mendes and others. It was held at Vitória in Espírito Santo, a beautiful city by the sea. In the photo you can see a statue to Iemanjá, goddess (or orixá) of the sea, is a central deity in the Candomblé religion. She watches over sailors and fishermen and controls their catches. She is very powerful, the protector of children and often depicted as a mermaid dressed in either white or blue. Vitor is not in blue.
