The International Society on General Relativity and Gravitational (ISGRG), with thousands of practitioners, has elected Professor Vítor Cardoso for President during the 2028-2031 triennium. The election took place during the largest meeting in the field, which this year took place in Glasgow, GR24.

The Society brings together the community and organizes the most influential meeting which takes place every three years, to discuss the state of the art and open challenges in the field. The community is now in a particularly exciting era, with an extraordinary activity in gravitational wave astronomy and on the development of new detectors in low- and high frequency.

Professor Vítor Cardoso is a Distinguished Professor in Técnico and a ULisboa Award 2023, for his “extraordinary contributions to theoretical physics and to scientific progress on a global scale”. He now joins a distinguished list of colleagues who occupied the same role, such as Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat, a pioneer in the mathematical analysis of Einstein’s equations, or Roger Penrose famous for a number of breakthroughs and Nobel Prize of Physics in 2020.
