Troels Harmark Presents a Public Lecture Series on the Mystery of Time

What is time? How did time originate? And how can we even begin to understand it?

In this series of public lectures, Troels Harmark explores the nature of time and some of the deepest questions surrounding it. Einstein discovered that time is relative and dynamical: it does not pass at the same rate everywhere. In fact, time passes ever so slightly more slowly at your feet than at your head—for the same fundamental reason that it slows down near a black hole.

But quantum physics adds another layer to our understanding of time. The growth of entropy gives time a direction—an arrow pointing from the past towards the future. How are these different ideas about time connected? Why does time have a direction? And how is it that, in our universe, we can nevertheless agree on a common cosmic time?

These questions—and what modern physics can tell us about them—are at the heart of this lecture series.
