Ringdown in Lisbon
Black hole spectroscopy is a thriving part of gravitational-wave astronomy. It consists on the study of black hole relaxation, in its proper modes of oscillation. These modes probe the region close to the horizon of black holes, and if there’s new unexpected physics in the gravitational interaction, they will be a good discriminator. The future is bright, with new detectors coming online soon and ever increasing signal strength.
The community meets every two years, a gathering that started in 2024 in New York and in 2026 in Copenhagen. This year, it took place in Lisbon. A good reflection of how active and relevant the CoG and the Lisbon groups for this field is the number and quality of talks delivered by their members. And here’s a number of us in the photo: from left to right, top to bottom, João, Giada, Sophia, Brian, Marina, Lorena, Vitor Leart, Ariadna, Simon, Taillte, Marica, David and Enrico. The next meeting will take place in New York.
