Probing Black Holes: Center of Gravity Students Present New Results in Lisbon
Center of Gravity students, Lucía Vélez Tartajo and Leart Sabani, attended the XVIII Black Hole Workshop held at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon. This event gathers researchers across theoretical and observational black hole physics to exchange ideas and present recent results.
Over two days, participants delivered 10-minute flash talks on their latest work, followed by stimulating discussions, fostering a dynamic environment for scientific exchange.
Lucía Vélez Tartajo, a second-year master student, presented preliminary results from her thesis, which investigates the excitation of overtones in black hole ringdown, and its dependence on the initial perturbation. Her project is supervised by Vitor Cardoso and conducted in collaboration with Jaime Redondo-Yuste.
Leart Sabani, also a second-year master student, presented a work recently published in Physical Review D. Together with Rico Lo and Vitor Cardoso, he introduced a new technique for computing quasi normal mode frequencies and excitation factors based on the Generalised Sasaki Nakamura formalism.
The workshop provided an excellent opportunity for Lucía and Leart to actively engage with the gravitational physics community and share their research with international colleagues.
