A New Book by Troels Harmark

Troels Harmark’s new book “På Sporet af Tidens Gåde: Fra græsk filosofi til kanten af sorte huller og universets endeligt” (in english: “Unraveling the Mystery of Time: From greek philosophy to the edge of black holes and the end of the universe”) was published by Gyldendal on April 9, 2025.

According to the publisher, “theoretical physicist Troels Harmark takes us on a journey that spans from the ancient greek philosophers to today’s frontiers of research—relativity theory, quantum physics, black holes, and the discovery that time began with the universe 13.8 billion years ago.

It’s about the relativity of time: that time moves faster at the top of a skyscraper than at ground level, and that time can be affected so profoundly it comes to a standstill at the edge of a black hole. It’s about the changing nature of the world, the direction of time, the emergence of life, time’s connection to chance, whether there is one universe or many, and why our universe appears the way it does.

‘Unraveling the Mystery of Time’ delves into some of the biggest and most fundamental questions one can ask: What is time, and what does it mean that time passes? Is time the same for everyone? Is everything predetermined, or can the world surprise us? How did time begin—and will it one day come to an end?"
